The Chester County Highway Safety Project has a primary
goal to decrease highway fatalities through focusing on the issues
of Aggressive Driving, Seat Belt Safety and DUI through enforcement
collaboration and educational classes, programs and special events.
About Highway Safety
According to crash data provided by Penn DOT, the three main areas
of highway safety concern in Chester County are Aggressive Driving,
Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Lack of Seat Belt Use.
County Assessment:
Chester County had 56 fatalities in 2004, 28 of those unbelted,
17 alcohol related and 35 due to Aggressive Driving. The total crash
numbers for that same year were 5318, 511 alcohol related and 3475
due to Aggressive Driving. In an effort to protect our citizens from
becoming victims of the horror of car crash fatalities or trauma
related to car crash occurrences, The Chester County Highway Safety
Project would like to continue its efforts in educating and linking
with law enforcement to promote safe driving practices throughout
the county.
